How To Solve Cryptograms

Games : Puzzles

Cryptograms are puzzles whereby the letters of a phrase or saying that is well known are substituted for other letters, and you have to de-crypt the phrase.

So, for instance, the word "food" could be re-written as "gaac"... You are given a phrase of perhaps 10 - 15 words and have to work it out.

What can you do to help?

Well, look for two or three letter words. There will nearly always be a connector like 'the', 'but', 'an' and you can often try these words out for size to make progress.

Remember that the letter you see used the most is probably the 'e', and from positioning you can often see where the vowels are.
