How To Sort Out Your Makeup

Beauty : Cosmetics

If you wear makeup regularly, it is natural that over a period of time you acquire quite a vast collection unless you are ruthless and always get rid of what you don't want anymore! The majority of people tend to let it build up though, and before you know it your makeup bag is jammed and you have a dressing table or drawer covered in more products. If this is the case, it is definitely time to have a good spring clean of your makeup collection!

When products are past their best it is definitely time to let them go, even if you have only worn them a couple of times. Mascara should be replaced every 3 months, otherwise it becomes clumpy and dry, and in addition the wand can harbour germs and so become unhygienic. Generally, lipsticks, eyeshadow and other powders like blusher will be able to be used for up to 3 years. Liquid products, like foundations and tinted moisturisers are more likely to need replacing after 2 years at the least.

In order to get some organisation into your makeup, you need to decide firmly what products you wear regularly, what ones are special e.g. Just for going out, and then whatever is left should be thrown away. There is no point in keeping a lipstick or any other product if it doesn't suit you and you know you won't wear it.

Don't buy colours that you know won't suit you but they look good in the package in the shop. Stick to the colours that you know you look good in, and always have your regular makeup handy. If you want to buy extra for special occasions, or just to vary your look from day to day, then choose shades that are similar to or a variation on your regular colours.

There is no need to carry all your make-up around with you. You might find it easier to split it up into the essential items you need during the day at work and so on, and then keep the rest of the stuff which is not used everyday at home, either in a separate bag or in a drawer. Alternatively, you might wish to buy a beauty organiser which are available from chemists and department stores. These cases have lots of compartments and spaces so that you can keep makeup with hair accessories, creams and other toiletries.
