Whilst they used to serve an important purpose, and stopped the image getting "burnt in" to the screen, modern monitors do not suffer from the same problem. There is no real purpose to screen savers any more just to look pretty. Therefore you might as well bin your screensaver. All the screensaver does is slow down your machine, and also potentially run into conflicts with other software. So, bin the screensaver now, and speed up your machine.
