How To Start And End A Letter

Education : English

Letter writing is simple, but you need to follow some basic rules in your exam to ensure that you do things right:

- if you know the name of the person, e.g.
Dear Mr Jones

Then end the letter Yours sincerely

If you don't know the person,
e.g. Dear Madam

... then end Yours faithfully

Time and again students get these the wrong way around and lose a mark

How to remember:
the acronym FUSK is all you need to remember:
Faithfully = Unknown (sir/madam)
Sincerely = Known (Mr. Bloggs)

In other words, it's all a lot of FUSK about nothing...
