How To Start Competitive Tennis

Sport : Tennis

Many youngsters will just want to play tennis for fun, and enjoy the social side and of course the fact that it is great for keeping you fit.

Others however, through ambition and talent - or at least one of those, anyway, will want to start playing competitions.

If you do want to play competitions, then one of the best ways to get into the groove is to start playing them as early as you can. That way they are less of a big deal and more a way of life.

Start off with local club junior tournaments, but if there aren't enough of these or they aren't a big enough challenge, move onto your local district tournaments, which there will tend to be several times a year.

Once you start playing at a county level, then be prepared for a bigger jump up in standard where you will be playing people who might play every day!

Remember at a young age to always try and keep a sense of perspective and have fun. That doesn't mean take a match lightly, but remember that a loss is not the end of the world, either!
