| Relationships : Family If you are in the situation of being a step-parent or having a step-parent, then it can be very hard and difficult to get accustomed to the new people in the house. And of course the fact that you will have to try to get on with them and respect and like them for the good and sanity of everyone in the home. The key is not to give up too early. It can take months and months and sometimes even years to be truly comfortable around each other. Therefore if things are strained at first then don't give up after a week or two. This is perfectly natural and in fact it would be strange were this not the case at first. Just be sure to ride through the tougher times in light of the potential of smoother times ahead. Being fair and even handed and consistent in your treatment at all times will help make this easier.
