Step Parenting Advice: The Key Difference

Relationships : Family

The key difference to step parenting is, of course, that it is never quite the same as being a parent in the biological sense.

The natural biological bond automatically creates a sense of love for children from the parents, but with a non-biological child this is just not the case.

Therefore if you are a step parent don't feel frustrated or worried if feelings of love do not come into the equation.

As long as you can respect and like the step child then that is what is critically important.

A lot of friction can come because the step-child thinks that the step-parent is trying to 'replace' their biological mother or father.

Therefore you should actively try and not emulate this relationship, but rather develop a different sort of relationship: and gain respect and acceptance back this way.
