How To Stop Cats Killing Birds

Pets : Cats

Cats are natural born killers - just look at their cousins in the wild and you will appreciate how incredibly accomplished this group of animals is at hunting, stalking and killing.

Of course, pet cats don't need to kill for food with loving owners to give them all the food they need, but this doesn't stop their instinct.

As a result, cats outside kill quite literally millions of garden birds each year, sometimes with quite serious results for populations.

What can be done?

The most obvious thing is to keep your pet cat indoors all the time. If you want the cat to be outdoors and if it is an outdoor cat, then this might not be practical.

In this case, attach a bell that sounds to it, so that when it moves the bell will sound and alert any small birds and animals to the presence of a watching at.

If you have bird feeders in the garden, ensure they are at a reasonable height and also away from places where cat could hide and pounce.
