How To Stop Your Dog Terrorising Household Items

Pets : Dogs

Only give it one toy to play with. If it has any more, it will form the idea that everything around it is up for grabs in the chewing stakes, and will swiftly go about demolishing the contents of your home!

More dogs advice

I have to disagree with this. I too was told to only allow my dog one toy to keep from chewing other items. My oldest dog (we got at 8 weeks old), I did give her one toy to play with however, she still continued to chew on the furnishings - everything! Our younger dog (we got at 11 weeks old) had about 20 toys - old socks with knots in them (to keep them from chewing "our" socks, hard rubber toys (the durable ones), balls, rope thingies, etc. To this date, and she is 3 years old, she has never ever touched a thing in the house other than her toys. She has a wicker basket that is her "toy box" and that's where we put them at night so she knows it's time to go to bed. In the morning, she gets every toy out and plays with them constantly (stopping to nap off and on but always with one of her toys close-by). We found that getting them to play with several toys all the time, that tends to keep them occupied..
