The first thing to do is to try and place the big numbers first. See possibilities where they are contained, for instance, and you can work out where the numbers must be placed. Also be sure to remember that cells where you can't place a certain number often have a one in them! Also, if you have two cells that must either be 2 or 3 for instance then remember that this may help you in turn deduce the cells next to those cells. Be sure to scan the whole grid when stuck as often there is a forced move that you will have missed - for instance a non complete block that can only move in one direction!
