How To Strike Up A Conversation On Public Transport

Well the key is to ask what is called an open question, and not a closed one. A closed one is no good as it goes nowhere - it just has a short yes, no or maybe answer. For instance if you ask someone what time it is they will just tell you the time. If you ask if it is cold they will say yes or no. Therefore you want to ask someone that is more open and gets them to give you a fuller response, which can then lead into conversation.
