There are many ways to succeed and indeed to fail when trying to lose weight.

Here are some tips to help you out:

- Take it slow. Make gentle changes to your diet; for instance do not go knee jerk into eating very little. Gradually cut down over a period of time or change food types

- Eat more meals, but make them smaller.

- Slow down how fast you eat - for instance if you wish you could even put your knife and fork down between bites

- Remember that you need to be in this for the long haul - it's not a quick fix and whilst it can be a depressing thought, keeping the weight off is sometimes harder than getting it off in the first place
