If you are required to take minutes, then here are some key tips:

- sit as close to the chairperson as possible: here you are at the hub of the meeting and can clarify as necessary

- note all attendees and apologies

- have a meeting agenda ready and minutes of the last meeting

- take shorthand notes, or key point notes, and ensure you clarify what you are unsure of at the time

- record actions to be resolved outside the meeting, and ideas for the next meeting
