How To Teach Your Cat Its Name

Pets : Cats

When you get a cat, the first thing you do is to name it.

Then it's a case of getting the cat to recognise its name. Cats can't read or write, so how do you do this?

Well, through the spoken word!

Talk to your cat as often as you can, and use its name on many occasions. Call the cat to you by name over a period of a few weeks, and you should soon realise that it knows its name and responds.

You can use similar methods to help it associate words like 'food' with its pet food being ready to eat in the kitchen.

A whistle is also a very effective call for a cat.

I have a cat called Norman. I always used to call 'Puss Puss' when I had his dinner, so now he thinks his name is Puss Puss.
