Certainly don't go for anything too objectionable or loud - it should be noticeable if someone actively listens but certainly not too loud like at a disco where you might have to shout above the volume of the music. Ensure that it is easy listening or gentle music, not rock or anything with too much bass. At Christmas you could use a compilation CD to get all the guests in the mood!
