The Origin Of Christmas Crackers
| Christmas Christmas crackers - we love to pull them at Christmas for fun, and we groan at the jokes inside. And when you locate where the tiny plastic lumpy toy inside flew to and worked out how much it cost you, you start to wonder where the idea of the Christmas cracker came from and why we do it! Well, it seems to be that this was invented by a Mr Tom Smith in 1847, which may not narrow it down a lot as it is such a popular name! He added the snap element after seeing a log crackling in a fire. It became a novelty product at Christmas for the festivities and celebration and took on straight away and was an instant hit. And his company made them as the leading UK manufacturer for 150 years from that date!
