The Physical Clone
Philosophy : Thought Experiments What makes you the same person at time t as you were at t - 1? Is having the same physical presence enough? Well, imagine that you were kidnapped, but as coincidence would happen, someone who was physically identical to you turned up in your home town at the same time. Would people hold that person to be you? Perhaps initially they would, but after speaking to 'you' and realising that the memories were different would they still hold it to be the same person, a different person, or 'you' but with your memories altered? This thought experiment helps tease apart your intuitions on what it takes to be classified the same person over a period of time.
