How To Understand Netball
Sport : Other Sports And Tips How to understand netball: In netball there are two teams of seven players, and the only moves are throwing, catching and shooting - but unlike basketball there is no "dunking" or dribbling allowed. The goalpost consists of a pole about 10 feet high, with a net, but there is no backboard either. You may only shoot from within the circle that is drawn around each goal. Players remain in their specific "area" of the court, depending on their position. The players wear bibs with the abbreviations of their position on the back and front. GS - goal shooter, this player has the most responsibility for shooting a goal. GA - goal attack, they play within the goal circle and attacking 2/3 of the court and is also allowed to shoot. WA - wing attack must pass the ball to the shooters, and plays in the same area as GA apart from the goal circle. C - centre, this player is the link between defence and attack in the team and plays in all areas of the court apart from the goal circles. WD - wing defence defends the wing attacker and is allowed to play in the defence and centre thirds of the court. GD - goal defence. This player must defend GA and plays the same area as WD but also allowed in the goal circle. GK - goalkeeper cannot shoot and must remain in the defence third of the court that includes the goal circle. Only positions GS and GA are allowed to shoot. Each shot which goes cleanly through the net counts as one point for the team that threw it. A game is broken up into four 15 minute quarters, and after each quarter the teams swap to the other end of the court. The winning team is the team who has shot the most goals by the end of the 4th quarter.
