How To Use Chopsticks
Food And Drink : Great Food Tips When using chopsticks for the first time, there is one key thing you should remember - the top stick is meant to be flexible and pick up the food while the bottom one remains still. Try and keep your hand as relaxed as possible You place one chopstick so that it rests on your thumb and middle finger. It should not touch your index finger, but rest on the lower joint of the middle finger and bottom of your thumb. The top chopstick will then go between your thumb and index finger, with the side of it against your thumb. Check to see that the two chopsticks are parallel to each other, and practise moving the top one around while the other stays still. This is what you do to pick up food. Once you have a firm grasp of the piece of food, steadily raise your hand to your mouth. You can use your third finger to help move the top stick if that is easier. This is just a rough guide - play around with them until you find a posiiton on your fingers which works most effectively.
More cookery adviceYour way of holding chopsticks is not the same way we[Asians] do. The bottom chopstick[stationary one] should rest on the fourth finger[ring finger], under the thumb and at the index finger's joint. The top chopstick[moving one] should lie on the side of your middle finger, touch your index finger with your thumb on top[nail facing up]..
