How To Use Examples To Gain Marks

Education : English

When you are writing an exam answer, there is a golden rule:

Use EXAMPLES to back up your case.

For instance, if you notice the language is particularly emotive and the author is trying to use emotion to argue a dodgy case, then don't write

"The author uses emotive language" and leave it there. Rather, back up with emotions:

"It is clear that the author does not hold the Labour party in high regard, and is trying to persuade us to this conclusion. This is clear when the author uses phrases such as 'pathetic, sorry excuse for a political party' which is much stronger and more emotive than simply saying 'an ineffective party'".
