However with the vast majority of products they work much better applied to damp hair, as this will help the style to hold better. The gel should be used to try to build up the desired style that you are after. This works best if you have a clear idea in mind to work towards rather than just whacking the gel in and seeing what happens to the hair! Remember that you should apply the hair gel as low down the hair as you can, as it works best when applied at the base to help to shape and hold. Particularly with longer hair it will be very ineffective if applied at the top. Therefore it often works well to brush all your hair back with the hand and the gel first to ensure it hits the base of each hair, before then brushing forward into desired style.
