How To Use Mnemonics To Aid Revision

Education : Exams And Revision

One key aspect that brings success in revision is, of course, remembering.

Yet strangely enough, none of us ever study at school the best techniques for remembering information that may be quite fact based, or technical, and hence harder to understand.

One method is to build a mnemonic to help you remember the sequence, for instance:
the initial letters of the mnemonic Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain gives the order of the colours in a rainbow.

From this, you are given the trigger: ROYGBIV and from that you are much more likely to remember: Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet.

So, when revising any sequence, try and build a mnemonic around it to help you remember. It really helps!
