How To Use Substitutes For A Successful Diet

Going completely 'cold turkey' on something can be very hard to do.

Therefore it is often best to use substitutions when trying to give something up, rather than let go completely.

That's why you will often see smokers with a lolly in their mouth when giving up - it gives them something to concentrate on that isn't a cigarette.

Similarly, with foods, you can try to replace with something similar but different.

For instance, if you love coffee and are trying to reduce your intake, then when you feel you want a coffee, don't just have nothing at all - rather have a mug of hot water, or other hot drink with flavouring for instance.

This is more effective as you still get a drink to enjoy, just not the coffee!

Works well with foods, too - replace that bag of crisps with some crunchy carrot sticks for instance!
