Using the speakerphone is not normally an option as this will disturb other people. Rather than cupping the handset with one hand and trying to type with the other or getting your hand stiff holding the phone to your ear all the time, use a headset. This leaves you free to type and talk and is much more comfortable than for instance the alternative of constantly having a phone held up against your ear, which is no fun for anyone!
