What Do I Put In A Covering Letter

Jobs : Job Search

This is a common question. In general, most people understand the point of a CV and what should go in one (though that doesn't mean they are actually good at writing one, sadly).

With the covering letter, people get more confused. So briefly, here is what you should place in the covering letter:

- the exact job you are applying for: common mistake: people write the wrong job title down!

- a little about who you are, and why you think you are perfect for the job (give a couple of supporting examples of why you are)

- why you are attracted to this company in particular (perhaps their company ethos etc)

- keep it short and to the point. Once you're done, you're done

Never have more than about four paragraphs in total. Any more won't get fully read anyway!
