What Is Heaven Like?
Religion And Culture : Christianity I tried to respond to this question posted by Clemence (Did I get your name right?) but I got the infamous error message. So I thought I would post it here, and I hope you'll see it. Perhaps this will also be of interest to other Religion readers. 1 Cor. 2: 9 says, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." The next thing I would do is picture the most glorious place you can think of. Better yet, picture the very scenario in which you think you coud be happy and content for the rest of Eternity. If you like sunsets, think of sunsets having colors that exceed our perceptive abilities. If you like to fly, picture flying under your own power. If you wish to be a superman fighting for truth, justice and the right way on another planet, then think of that. If you like to play poker, and you think that being the champion poker player of the word would be what you want, gaining millions of dollars every few weeks, then think of that. Next, read the scripture again. It hints that heaven is much, much better than anything we can ever imagine. Therefore, after you've imagined what you would like Heaven to be, you can conclude that it will be much better than that. The only additional thing you have to do is love God, as this is what that verse is talking about. Loving Him means you'll do as He asks--or at least you'll begin today. It may be difficult to do everything He asks before our time is up, but if we're found moving along that path when that time comes, that'll be good enough. -- Sam More heaven adviceWhen I wrote the article about what Heaven is like, I was thinking this was supposed to be a message to all faiths, but I forgot to address this part of the issue. Even though I quoted from a Christan source, I'm feeling like it applies to the Jewish, the Muslims, the Hindus, etcetera. If there is a God out there, then the religion that comes the closest to describing Him/Her will most likely know a bit about His merciful and loving side. I don't know of a religion that describes our Creator as unjust and unloving. I therefore believe the Christian idea of "what God has prepared for us" is close to how it will be, as the Christian canon and its followers seem to have quite a bit of information on the kingdom of God.
