What Is Muscle Failure

Health And Fitness : Muscle Building

There are many articles you will read on muscle building and muscle growth that talk about MMF or momentary muscle failure. It sounds quite strange, so what is it?

Well, the name is actually quite descriptive - it is where the muscle has been pushed to the point where momentary it fails.

Therefore for instance imagine you are lifting a dumbbell with your arm. Normally you lift it up and bring it down - the muscle works.

However at the point of muscle failure you literally cannot lift the weight - the muscle tries to but the weight is too much for it and therefore the muscle fails. This is known as MMF.

The reason this is often set as a target for an exercise is that some research suggests that an effective way to build muscles quickly is to get them to reach that point of MMF during an exercise program.
