What To Do About Work When It Snows

Jobs : The Post Interview Process

If it snows heavily and you cannot make it into work because its taken so long to get there, speak to your boss as soon as possible. They may force you to take unpaid leave, take off holiday days or work flexible hours. As long as you show you have made the effort to try and get in then they should be sympathetic. Check your employment contract if you think they are treating you unfairly.

Employers are required to give staff a minimum notice before they can force you to take holiday leave due to weather conditions. Usually this is about 2 days in advance. Obviously this is quite hard if it is unexpected but always keep up to date with the weather forecast for the week.

You may be asked to work at home instead. Choose whether you’d prefer to do this or take a day of unpaid leave, or a holiday day instead.

If your work place is closed due to bad weather then your employer cannot dock your pay or force you to take unpaid leave.
