Well, you will have to prove that you bought the goods and when and where you bought it. Whilst your statutory rights are still there, the onus to prove this is firmly and squarely on your shoulders. So what counts as a valid alternative to the receipt? Well it could be that you have a bank statement or a credit card bill that shows that you have made that purchase - this should be accepted in most places.
