What To Do If Your Car Breaks Down

Hobbies : Cars And Motoring

Safety is the most important thing if your car breaks down. Get out of the way of traffic straight away and pull onto the hard shoulder slowly and calmly if on a motorway or dual carriageway. Make sure you indicate so the other drivers know what you are doing.

If there is no hard shoulder, then go as far to the left as possible. Activate your hazard lights when stopped and get out through the passenger door.

When it is safe to do so, call for help, by phoning the AA or RAC to come and find you. Failing this, call the police if in danger. If your mobile is low on battery then you call use one of the free emergency telephones on the side of the road.

When you are waiting for help, stay outside of your car and away from traffic. Only get back in the car if you are in danger. Make sure you stay warm and are vigilant for any possible danger signs, so be wary and awake at all times.
