Why Is No-one Responding To My Business Marketing?

Business : Business Questions

This is a common question that businesses ask themselves, particularly in the early stages.

Full of optimism, you create 1,000 brochures. You then buy a list of target customers and call them up. Many express interest and ask for your brochure, so you send it out.

None of them call you back, and when you leave a message for them a week or two later, they never get back to you. So what's gone wrong?

Well, this is very common indeed so you are not alone. It could be a problem with your marketing material but in the main it is down to persistence.

Research has shown that many sales people feel they tend to get the business done on the 4th or 5th call, and very rarely does one follow-up call get the job done (though you must not be a pest and if you are ever told not to call again or take that company off your list you must respect their wishes).

When you do get to speak to someone, ask them open questions too - don't ask 'are you interested in our service?' which is yes / no but rather the much better:

"What would we need to do for you to be interested in our services" or "what would you like from us in order to get your business" - open questions will at least give you good feedback and things you can do to improve, or are harder to avoid. If they say 'nothing really' then at least you know where you stand, if they come up with a list of ideas then you have just got yourself a much warmer lead.
