How To Write A Killer CV

Jobs : Job Search

If you are job searching at the moment, then one of the key documents is your CV. This is simply the sales document that you use to sell yourself and get that foot in the door.

So, how to write your CV?

Well, first off decide on format - one page or two. Most people will want two pages to give more opportunity to outline their skills and achievements to date.

Remember to cut out the rubbish that is irrelevant. Don't write CV at the top!

Start with a bold headline summary of what you are and your key skills. For instance "Enthusiastic and experienced banker with over seven years experience of project management"

Go straight into listing your achievements in reverse chronological order.

Ensure that you stick to the point, emphasise what you have done, and make sure there is more written about your most recent jobs and less about your oldest ones.

Write in the first person - the most hated thing is when people write in their CVs in the third person - that's bizarre, but surprisingly common!

Keep extra info like outside interests and so on to a short section at the end of the CV. In that section look for active and energetic pursuits to list, rather than for instance watching TV!
