How To Write Catchy Tunes

Music

If you are writing catchy tunes, or rather want to, then what can you do?

For some lucky people this does come naturally whilst for many people, and particularly those who are trained, when they start playing they naturally get reminded of some other song and then start playing that and can't get it out of their heads.

This is annoying, so what can you do if you are struggling?

Well there is a temptation to make things too complicated! Catchy melody lines and hooks are often the most straightforward part of the song, and can simply be going up and down a few notes of a scale; if you listen to a lot of your favourite pop songs with strong melodies in the past then you will find that the most catchy part is often the simplest part of the tune just resolving a major chord or going up and down a few notes of a scale... so don't overcomplicate things when you go about finding that catchy part of a tune to help you make your millions!
