Writing Technique: Breaks Are A Must

Hobbies : Writing

If you are a writer, then it is crucial that you take regular breaks from your writing.

Unless you are in a real flow - in which case go with it as it doesn't happen every time you sit down to write - aim to have breaks at regular intervals.

Whilst the perception of someone going out into the wilderness in the country and emerging with a complete manuscript a few months later may run in the popular imagination, the actuality is rarely like this.

Also try to get as much diversity as you can and changes of scenery. Inspiration can come from anything - someone you meet in the street, an advertising billboard, a piece of strange countryside that you drive past - anything.

Also be sure that you eat well and also keep in good shape with regard exercise - the endorphins and buzz of an exercise program can help stimulate you and after exercise you are often best able to concentrate well and generate some tip top work.

Finally, note that even doing lateral thinking puzzles and brainteasers can help you become even more creative in your writing too, so are well worth doing!
