Your First Day In A New Job
Career : Workplace Issues Your first day in a new job is a daunting affair, of course, so what should you do before and during the day? The first thing to do is to ensure that you know where you are going on the first day! Consider a dry run, as it were, if you are unsure where it is. Secondly, give yourself lots of leeway to get in on time the first day so even if there are delays you won't be rushing. Being late on the first day just looks bad even if you were powerless to stop it! Next, be sure to pack everything you will need in advance and ensure you conform to the dress code. If in doubt always go for a little smarter rather than a little more casual for the first day. Remember to smile, walk tall, be confident, and speak slowly when meeting people for the first time - as nerves tend to make you talk more quickly this should help you to re-adjust. Finally, tell yourself that they are lucky to have you in their team and of all the value you are going to add, and soon those nerves should settle down and go away!
