How to deal with distance in a relationship

i fell in love with my best friend about six years ago. he was a shy type and never had a girlfriend. i kissed him first five years ago and he kissed me back. we have been dating on and off since then. but we were never in a relationship. then we made love a year ago, but only the once, the first time ever for us both. he has never had or kissed another girl that i know of. the problem is that his friends play a very important role in his life. he studies for a doctor in another country thus we only see each other two times a year. i have not been with him since then until two weeks ago, we kissed for hours and then he wanted to go further, but i did'nt want to. he then told me that we have done it once why cant we do it again. i love this guy to bits, but in my heart i felt that he is using me thats why i didnt want to. he started kissing me again and all my senses wanted to go further but i still refused. he told me that both of us wanted to so why with hold. then he asked me why we made love in the first place. why i did it with him. maybe he expected another answer i dont know. in order to stop me from making a mistake i told him that i was drunk when i did it (which of cause isnt true). i could see the dissappointment in his eyes, he asked me again if that was the only reason i made love with him then i said yes, he then stood up got dressed, waited for me and then we went our seperate ways. i have never told him that i love him, should i tell him that i made love with him because i love him or should i just leave it and forget about him?

Replies:

It will require commitment and trust from both parties to make it work.

If that is there then go for it, but be clear that it is either exclusive and to be worked at or not worth it at all.

If unrealistic try to move on as hard as that might be.
