To remove tough burnt in stains then use a mild detergent and warm water.
Then rub quite hard and maybe use a light scourer to really work into and shift those stains.
Rinse off with warm water and blot dry.
This should do the trick with the vast majority of stains!

I have beautiful stainless steel pots and pans, and and they look almost brand new, and I have owned them for 5 years. I use Bar Keepers Friend on my stainless steel (and other surfaces that need a non-abrasive cleaner. ) I put the powder on my sponge and dissolve it then with some elbow grease there is nothing I cannot remove. Even the burn in oil on some of my frying pans. I stay away from scotch Brite pads as they scratch my gorgeous shine, so again elbow grease is the key.
