How to straighten hair

I have been told that you can use a curling iron to straighten hair..

Not really my area of expertise, but it doesn't seem to make sense to use a curler to straighten hair.

Might sound too logical - but why don't you use hair straighteners like GHDs instead of a curler to straighten hair!!!
