Sums are cool and not just for fools!

At school we all tend to think that maths is boring - or for our American friends, math (both call the full version mathematics as far as I'm aware).

However, the fact is that maths is really useful in the real world and lots of jobs use maths all the time.

Aside from mathematicians, if you look at practically any invention you see around us or object that humans have created, maths has been instrumental in making in possible.

When rockets are sent into space down to the engineering of the component parts of any number of machines, mathematics has given us the power to inform our calculations and ensure that we get things just right for what we want to achieve.

This may seem a far way away from the real world, but even for those who don't work in any job that seems to require a great knowledge of maths, it still pays to have an awareness of maths and sums, even if it's just when you add up your shopping bill and in order to have an understanding of costs, prices and to work out how much you get paid each week if you get an annualised salary.

In order to improve your maths, there is one thing that you need to do, and that is practice!

The good thing is that it can be fun to practice your maths, and there are lots of useful and fun sites on the internet that you can use to help you do this.

One site that is free and has a range of different maths puzzles on is called Speed Maths, and you can view it here: Speed Maths

It has lots of different puzzles on there and if you do a few a day for a week then you should find that your speed improves; and it also has some tips on various elements and aspects of maths and how to learn to understand and perform different types of calculations.

So give it a go and become a maths whizz in no time at all!
