Tips on writing a book or novel...

If you write a novel or book, then how do you go about it?

Well it takes great organisation and discipline. Whilst everyone has a book inside them it takes a certain person to actually get that book out and onto paper in the form of the written word.

Here are some simple tips you can take to help you:

First, start getting into the process of getting things down on paper. Everyday write and jot down the ideas that occur to you. There will be several false starts, but one day the ideas will be strong and vivid enough that you are able to continue and get involved with them.

What you should then do is start a character book. Here you note down each of the main characters and write down their characteristics for instance appearance, view on life, and so on.

This will help you mould further story lines around those characters, and you should then sketch an outline of each chapter on one page that details what happens in that particular chapter.

You then simply go through and embellish on these as you go through and write what comes to mind whilst developing those story and plot lines.

Of course it is more complex than this, but that's one basic method you can use to plan and map out in advance and then build on with the detail.

There are various tactics you can use for a gripping novel for instance twists and turns in the plot lines.

If you have a main character or hero who is being tested in the book then it is good to have a low point of point of desperation that it seems very hard for them to come back from, only for them somehow to cleverly manage it - people like this device and it works well.

Try to really get inside the head of your character and it can help to draw on and bring your own life stories into the book and what you write for added realism.
