Best UK interest rate on savings

Anyone know where to get the best rate on UK savings or at least a good rate?

It's hard to tell with all the time limited offers and also accounts with strings attached like having to pay in a certain amount of money every month for instance. Wish they had a straightforward and simple comparison!

I'm not entirely sure where the best rates are, but I do know that as a rule you should avoid the larger banks, as they tend to have the worst rates over a longer period of time.

The smaller players and building societies tend to be best, and of those the accounts that are internet only or perhaps also phone tend to have the best interest rates as they cost the banks less to run.

You could try providers like ING Direct, at least a year or so ago they had a competitive rate.
