Have burnt a saucepan with cake mixture and has set like toffee, any ideas how to clean

Try filling it with boiling water, leaving it to soften, and then scrub hard! If that fails then you might just have to put up with the residue there, most pans get generally more and more burnt in stains over their lifetime!
