Can you change where a hamster pees?By: Gaylepat [20-November-09 1:59PM]1 posts |

We have a cage with a slide / ramp up to the wheel. Before she was learned to climb up into the wheel, our hamster decided that the slide would be her pee place. Now that she likes going up into the wheel, she is always walking through her pee, which makes her smelly. Does anyone know if there is a way to get her to stop peeing on the slide and start peeing somewhere else in the cage?

Have you asked your local pet store for advice as i know theres things to stop cats peeing and tom cats from spraying in places but i dont know about hamsters. Urm you could buy a new ramp and place the old one in the place where youed prefer in to go under a bit of sawdust. It could help as the smell will be on the old one. But im not certain. Let us know if it works x

Try using a pet friendly disinfectant to clean away the smell and stains of the urine on the ladder. You can also try placing some soiled bedding in a corner of the cage to try and train the hamster into using a different area to toilet in. Hamsters will generally only use a certain area to toilet in. Hope this helps

I agree with the person above who suggested that you should ask the pet store as they will probably know what you can do to retrain the hamster if that is possible.
