Evolution and God

What do you reckon... is it possible to believe in Evolution and God or are they too different?

Personally I don't see why you can't believe in both of them, although lots of people apparently think it must be one or the other.

But I don't see why it could not be God created the world and then evolution happened there is no incompatibility in that viewpoint for me.

I think that it is possible to believe in both of those things together, Davey, although I know that many people think that you have to believe in one or the other.

As you say it doesn't seem to be obviously the case that you can't both have God and evolution, because believing in God doesn't commit you to the belief that there is no evolution (at least I see no logical reason why believing the one should make you believe the other).

I suppose the problem comes for some from a literal interpretation of the old testament, as in if the whole world was really created in six days then clearly there would be no time for evolution to have taken place. So really it comes down to whether you interpret the whole bible as literal truth or allegorical, rather than belief in God per se.

Evolution and a belief in God are certainly not mutually exclusive, after all even the Vatican considers Evolution to correctly describe the origin of Species.
However, if you no longer require a God to explain this part, then why is that concept even needed at all anymore ?

The answer to that is that religion came a long time before evolution! Religion answers an awful lot more for those that believe in it as to how biodiversity came about. For instance where did the universe come from, how should we behave, what happens after we die etc - all those questions have nothing to do with the rather narrow question of how biodiversity occurred.

Well honestly does evolution make sense. two random rocks hiting each other and making the earth perfectly. with trees and stuff to me it doesn't make sense.but i guess thats just my opinion.
