1. Why are most subduction zones located along the edges of continents?

Because it is at the edge of continents where the separate plates of the earth tend to be and therefore this is where the inner contents of the earth and the outer contents of the earth, the crust, are more likely to come into contact.

As a result this is the natural place for subduction zones to occur.
