How do I remove adhesive that has melted onto my stainless steel cooker

We did not remove the protective film from our new stainless steel cooker before using it as we were still installing the kitchen. Now the adhesive is stuck on and I can't get it off. It looks awful as it is patchy. I have tried acetone, scrubing with a microfibre cloth and oil but nothing is shifting it! I am hoping someone may have found a solution to this.
