How to get work at the BBC

One of my friends now works at the BBC and they started off as a runner.

Basically they volunteered for a couple of years doing work for free like working behind the scenes on a few TV shows.

Then after doing that for a while they got offered a job on the production side which is what they were interested in.

So therefore if you want to work in TV or for a TV company then doing some runner work seems to be a good way to get into it.

Yes as you say, it is very common to work as a runner or doing some unpaid or voluntary work at things like radio or TV stations, and then hoping to get a big break as a result of that.
