How to make a conker last longer

Hi there its conker time and i keep loseing can anyone tell me how to make a conker last longer

The boys used to do this at the school I went to, and the trick was always to put them in vinegar overnight first.

This apparently makes the outside of the conker a lot harder, and that means it is much more difficult for it to break and therefore it will last longer.
