Making Garden Plot

We have a huge garden plot with the house we just bought last year, however it hasn't been used for quite some time, and basically just looks like a lawn. How can I eliminate this lawn and get the plot ready to grow things in? And is it possible to do this and be able to plant a garden in the same spring/summer? I would love to use it this year if I can. I live in central alberta. Thanks.

Sounds like a nice problem to have!

I wish I have a big garden but I just have a tiny little one which is pretty rubbish and I have no idea how to make a tiny garden look good - if anyone has any ideas let me know please x
