Softening stiff leather

Working with a hair-on tanned bear hide that is stiff. How do I get it soft to work with it?

Hi , the only way that i think leather can be softened is by ageing it , leather softens when it ages but i think you can buy creams to make them softer hope this helps

i like acrylic......it smells CCCLLLLLAAAAASSSSSSS.....i paint cats all the time.....my art teacher all tells me not to go so hard on the oil pastels but....she says i use them like crayons
